As General Manager at Old Major, Gene Fereda is proud to provide world-class hospitality at this award-winning, neighborhood restaurant. Joining Bunson and Co. in 2016, Gene brings his passion for the restaurant industry and 32 years of experience to a growing staple in the Denver restaurant scene. Gene is known for his charismatic personality and deep love of baseball.
Gene’s enthusiasm for good food and impeccable service began in both of his father’s restaurants. Working for his toughest critic, Gene gained important skills in every aspect of running a restaurant—from washing dishes to locking up at night. His experience in fine dining began in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at Yesterday’s on the Intercoastal and continued at prestigious establishments like Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Max’s Grille in Mizner Park. After 11 years in Florida, Gene’s love of surfing and photography drew him to the west coast. Following three years of contribution to the Cheesecake Factory brand, Gene moved to Lahaina, Maui where he joined the Paramount Restaurant Group as the lead bartender and corporate trainer for Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Still chasing that perfect wave, Gene moved to La Jolla, San Diego in 2000. He spent the next six years serving as the bar manager at Chive and the assistant general manager at Sbicca in Del Mar. Gene’s love of surfing hit the snow when he found his decade-long home in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Working for Vail Resorts, he honed his expertise in the world of wine, selling and serving grapes from one of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Lists. During his ten years at the historic Beano’s Cabin, Gene was the head bartender until his last season where he earned the title of sommelier.
Gene most enjoyed his experiences working under a master sommelier and providing excellent service for innovative chefs. “Helping the chef harvest fresh food directly from the garden for our loyal customers was an inspiring and eye-opening opportunity.” Gene is excited to be a part of the Brunson and Co. team where sustainable, farmhouse cuisine is always on the menu.
Gene has played baseball since he was three years old and still plays on a team here in Denver. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Broward College.
